President Andrzej Duda with his wife Agata took part in the commemorations of May 3rd Constitution Day. The head of state announced that he wants the consultation referendum regarding the constitution to take place between 10 and 11 of November. He also revealed that he's ready to submit an appropriate motion in Senate.
"I’d like the Polish nation, the Polish people to have their say regarding the direction in which the reforms of Polish political system should be heading," said President Duda on Thursday.
Motion to the Senate
"I hereby announce that soon, in accordance with the nationwide referendum Act, I will submit in the Senate an appropriate presidential resolution, namely a request to hold a referendum between 10 and 11 of November 2018," said the President during celebrations in front of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
If the referendum date gets accepted by the Senate, it will coincide with commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s independence.
"In this very year, we should provide answers to all these grand questions regarding the future of the Republic of Poland. It is a special year that marks a 100th anniversary of regaining independence, an absolutely symbolic year. I firmly believe that also in the symbolic aspect, this year is exceptionally important to all of us," said Andrzej Duda.
The President did not reveal the exact questions that will be asked in the referendum. Last year, on the 3rd of May, Andrzej Duda proposed that the consultation referendum regarding the possible changes to the constitution should be held on the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s sovereignty.
