We belong to the EU and NATO, we are conscious and responsible members of the Euro-Atlantic sphere; we want Central Europe to be a well-developed, well-intergrated and safe part of the Euro-Atlantic world, Polish President Andrzej Duda in Bucharest on Monday.
"The European Union and the North-Atlantic Treaty have always been and still are the two fulcrums of the Three Seas Initiative. The identity of the Three Seas Initiative is determined by our European and transatlantic identity," said Andrzej Duda.
"We are here today because we are a part of the EU and the NATO, we are conscious and responsible members of the Euro-Atlantic sphere, and therefore I cannot imagine the Three Seas Initiative outside those borders, and especially against those organisations and the values they represent," he emphasised.
"Nevertheless, along with these responsibilities comes one very important dream, a dream of identity. We want Central Europe to be a well-developed, well-intergrated and safe part of the Euro-Atlantic world," said the president.
As he stated, in order to achieve this goal "we are focusing on integrating the fields crucial for economic growth". He pointed to transport, energy sector, and digitalisation.
He added that in Bucharest, the existing cooperation in this scope "is being extended by new components".
President Duda also underscored that present in Bucharest and at the Business Forum are heads of the biggest financial institutions in Europe and the world, including the World Bank and the European Investement Bank. "This way, to the regional, European and transatlantic, we're adding a financial component," said Andrzej Duda.
He added that the summit will be attended also by the European Commission's chairman, as well as EU commissioners. "That is how we demonstrate the relationship between Three Seas and the EU are based on symbiosis and synergy, and not on competition and rivalry," underscored the president.
