Presidents of 13 EU member states have met at one of the most impressive baroque palaces of Latvia on Thursday for the informal Arraiolos Group meeting to discuss the future of Europe.
The session on the first day was devoted to discussing the modern security challenges and the necessary national responses to them.
On Friday, the Presidents will meet in the Riga Castle, where the second working session "Europe After 100 Before" will be convened and where the Presidents are expected to discuss the future of the European Union and the role of citizens in shaping the future of Europe.
The Arraiolos Group is a meeting of the Presidents of such EU member states where the presidents traditionally do not have executive powers. The first meeting took place in 2003 in the town of Arraiolos, Portugal.
The Arraiolos Group includes Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia.
