The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also celebrated the Ukrainian Independence Day.
"Europe will always be at Ukraine’s side, because Ukraine is Europe. Your freedom is our freedom. Your security is our security. We've been standing with you since day one. And we'll continue to do so, for as long as it takes. I'm wishing our friends a proud Independence Day" - she wrote on X.
She also informed that on the occasion of Ukraine's independence day, the building of European Commission was shone in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, "honouring the unbreakable spirit and bravery of our Ukrainian friends".
"Ukraine will prevail in this war and take its place in our European family. Slava Ukraini!" - she posted.
Ukraine celebrates independence
Ukraine's Independence Day is celebrated on August 24th. That day in 1991, the Verkhovna Rada of the then Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the Act of Independence, which was subsequently approved by referendum on December 1, 1991. Poland was the first country in the world to recognize Ukraine's independence. Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has been repelling a Russian invasion aimed at destroying the independent Ukrainian state.
