Polish-American relations are good and will only improve, said Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on Friday (November 8). He added that he sees opportunities for negotiating important interests with the new American administration.
On Friday, during a conference in Gdańsk, Sikorski was asked about the U.S. election in which Republican candidate Donald Trump won. "We respect the outcome of the U.S. elections; it is a decisive victory," he responded.
He pointed out that Donald Trump had already been to Poland and demanded actions that Poland agrees with: he had proposed increasing defense spending across Europe, imposed sanctions on Nord Stream, and his administration supplied anti-tank missiles to Ukraine even before Russia's full-scale aggression. "We expect there will be room for negotiations on important interests," added the Foreign Minister.
Sikorski also announced that the first permanent U.S. military installation in Poland, a missile defense base in Redzikowo, would be opened.
Asked about the cooperation with the former U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, Sikorski stated that he remembered her well. He recalled that she had served as ambassador at a time when the United States had lifted the visa requirement for Polish citizens.
The minister emphasized that Poland must maintain good relations with the U.S. regardless of who is president. "Projects are being implemented, Polish-American relations are good, and they will get even better," Sikorski stated.
