The District Prosecutor's Office in Częstochowa has launched an investigation into the death of a 53-year-old professor from a Warsaw university, whose body was found on Sunday (December 8) in his car in a forest in the Kłobuck county of the Silesian Voivodeship. The investigation is based on suspicion of leading the individual to take his own life through encouragement or assistance, which suggests a possible suicide.
"On December 9, the District Prosecutor's Office in Częstochowa initiated an investigation into causing a person to attempt suicide through persuasion or assistance. This legal classification of the investigation is adopted by prosecutors in cases where there is suspicion of a suicide attempt," said Prosecutor Tomasz Ozimek, spokesperson for the Częstochowa prosecutor's office.
Ozimek added that the goal of the investigation was to thoroughly clarify the circumstances of the man's death. As part of the investigation, an autopsy was to be conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine of the Silesian Medical University in the coming days. During the autopsy, biological samples were also be collected for toxicological tests to determine the cause of death.
Professor Mirosław K. had been missing for several days. The last contact with his family occurred on December 3, when he informed his wife that he was returning home to Blachownia, in the Częstochowa county. Neighbors confirmed that he had indeed returned home, left his laptop and books, ate something, and wrote a note saying he was "going out to the city."
Shortly after leaving the house, he disabled both SIM cards in his phone and turned off the location service, making further communication impossible. He then drove away from his home in his Mitsubishi car.
On Sunday, a passerby in Kuleje, Kłobuck county, discovered the car in the forest. Inside the vehicle, the body of the missing man was found.
No injuries found
On Monday, Częstochowa police confirmed that the dead man found in Kuleje was the missing 53-year-old.
"The investigation in this case is being conducted by the Częstochowa prosecutor's office. Initially, third-party involvement has been excluded. However, the autopsy ordered by the prosecutor will answer the question of what was the direct cause of the man's death," the statement read.
As explained by Tomasz Ozimek, the prosecutor conducted an inspection of the crime scene and the body.
"As a result of these activities, no injuries were found on the body that could have caused the man's death. Additionally, pharmacological substances and notes, which were probably written by the man, were secured in the car," he added.
