As a gesture of solidarity with Ukrainians fighting for their country, in Poland's major cities at noon, daily trumpted calls were substituted with the national anthem of Ukraine. The sound of the anthem could be heard from the clock tower of the Royal Castle in Warsaw, and from St. Mary's Church at Kraków's Main Square.
"Ukrainians in Warsaw see our joint effort, our real help. Today they will also be able to hear how we support them - when the sound of their national anthem will be heard in the heart of the capital," Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski said on Thursday morning.
The national anthem of Ukraine was played out by the Warsaw City Guard trumpeter. It was also payed in Kraków, Rzeszów, and Białystok.
The idea has been hashtagged #dlaNASZEJwolności (#forOURfreedom), and was initiated by the Mayor of Sandomierz Marcin Marzec.
