Storks begin to slowly return to Poland after winter. One of them landed in its nest located in Pasieka, near Żychlin. According to Artur Paul of Stowarzyszenie "Pomagam Bocianom" ("I Help Storks" Association), the bird arrived in the nest six days earlier than last year. Fans of storks can watch it live thanks to a special camera.
Rysiek - as that is how the owners of the nest named the stork - arrived in Poland on Sunday (March 12). After a short rest, the bird started to tidy up the nest. A second stork, a female, should join Rysiek in the coming days.
Rysiek arrived six days earlier than last year
Artur Paul of Stowarzyszenie "Pomagam Bocianom" says he saw five storks flying by, and one of them chose the nest in Pasieka. "The stork arrived exactly six days earlier than it had last year. In our facility, we have 17 storks under our care and all of them reacted enthusiastically to it (Rysiek - edit.) - the clattering just wouldn't stop." The stork carer also says that after a short rest, Rysiek started to tidy up its nest. "Soon, a female will join him and we will be able to watch the life of the stork couple live from their nest," Paul added.
Stork rehabilitation center in Pasieka
The first rehabilitation center for the white and the black storks in Łódź Voivodeship has been operating since last year in Pasieka, near Żychlin. At the moment it shelters 17 birds which sustained injuries and would not be able to make it in the wild. "This year, thanks to PGE foundation, we will receive funds to expand the facility. We will raise a maintenance building at which there will be a first aid room for injured storks. And in the already fenced area there will set up a shed, ponds, and an enclosure," said Artur Paul of Stowarzyszenie "Pomagam Bocianom".
