Israeli President Reuven Rivlin thanked nine Poles awarded the Righteous Among the Nations title for risking their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.
The Righteous Among the Nations came to Jerusalem along with World War II veterans and government official. The delegation was hosted by president Rivlin at his residence on Wednesday.
Rivlin expressed his gratitude to the Poles for their courage and outstanding display of humanity, when their homeland was occupied by the Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
"What the Righteous Among the Nations had done is engraved in golden letters in the history of the Jewish nation, and in the history of the whole world," Israeli president said thanking the Righteous and the delegation for "coming to Jerusalem - the capital of Israel".
Recipients of the Righteous Among the Nations award, which is the highest civilian distinction in Israel, receive a medal, a certificate of honor, and the privilege of having the name added to those on the Wall of Honor in the Garden of the Righteous at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
The title has been awarded since 1963 by the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem to those who helped Jews suffering Nazi persecution during World War II. Poles have received nearly 7.000 Righteous Among the Nations distinctions - the most of all nations.
