A Łódź repertory cinema - Kino Bodo - will cease to operate in November due to a threefold increase in heating and electricity bills. "The first thing people cut down on when faced with tight home budget is, unfotunately, culture. And so a small cinema like ours is not able to survive," says the owner of the place, Wojciech Wojtysiak.
Kino Bodo was established eight years ago in Łódź by cinema aficionados. It was a place where you could watch ambitious movies.
Unfortunately - says the cinema owner - the place has to shut down due to a threefold increase in heating and electricity bills among other problems.
"Increasing inflation and significant spike in electricity and heating bills - these factors led to the closing of the cinema," the owner, Wojciech Wojtysiak, said.
"After the pandemic, we thought we would catch a breath and start to function again, and then bang, this awful war broke out. This sparked the inflation which has kept on growing, but how long can you raise ticket prices?" - the owner of Kino Bodo asked.
"People have got disaccustomed of cinemas. The first thing people cut down on when faced with tight home budget is, unfotunately, culture. And so a small cinema like ours is not able to survive," Wojciech Wojtysiak told TVN24.
The cinema - the TVN24 reported said - could not hope for any subsidy and relied solely on ticket sales.
The last screening in Kino Bodo has been scheduled for November 19.
