Polish police are looking for a missing 10-year-old boy named Ibrahim. According to the authorities, the child was abducted by his father, citizen of Morocco, on Sunday evening in Gdynia. The Child Alert procedure was launched Monday early morning.
Ibrahim was taken from a block of flats at Ledóchowskiego street in Gdynia. The 10-year-old was visiting his grandparents to celebrate his birthday. As he was returning home with his mother, his father is said to have attacked the woman and taken the boy. The family notified the police shortly after the incident.
At 6:45 am on Monday, the police launched the Child Alert procedure, which is based on spreading information about missing children and their potential abductors, asking the public for help in the search.
The boy is 150 cm tall, has dark-brown hair and brown eyes. He was dressed in orange jacket, white jumper with Donald Duck on it.
Ibrahim was abducted by his father, a citizen of Morocco. The police published a photo of the man.
Belgian prosecutor's office said on Monday that, according to a court order from 2018, the boy was to remain with his father in Belgium.
The mother, however, claimed that the father had lost parental rights and the custody had been granted to her. She also added the man had already tried to abduct Ibrahim in 2019.
When the woman was being questioned at a police station on Monday, she received a phone call from the father of the child. He allowed them to speak to each other, but only in Dutch so the father could understand what they were saying. Reportedly, the boy said he was fine.
The Polish Border Guard said they were also looking out for the boy and stayed in communication with the police.
The authorities call on anyone who may have seen the child to provide information by calling 995.
