Polish police reported 21 deaths and 203 people injured in road accidents during Easter holidays. Furthermore, Robert Opas of Polish Traffic Police informed that nearly 1,200 drunk drivers had been detained in that period. This year's overall statistics resemble those from the 2022 Easter break.
Chief Commissioner Robert Opas of Polish Traffic Police Department told Polish Press Agency (PAP) on Tuesday (April 11) that between Friday and Monday (April 7-10) the department had recorded 173 road accidents across the country (just one accident less than during Easter in 2022).
In said accidents, 21 people died (6 deaths less than in 2022) and 203 were injured (1 more than in 2022). Furthermore, the police detained 1,184 drunk drivers.
When it comes to excessive speed, that is exceeding the 50 km/h limit, there were much less of such cases - 269, compared to 549 last year.
Robert Opas added that approx. 4,000 police officers had been keeping the roads safe each day of the holidays.
According to Poland's Main Police Headquarters, there were 174 road accidents last year, in which 27 people died. Also 1,265 drunk drivers were stopped at the time.
In 2021, there were 153 road accidents, 22 deaths, and 1,069 DUIs.
