During an off-duty ride a police officer from the Warmian-Masurian province spotted two stray dogs running next to the road. The freely-running animals were causing risk not only to their own safety, but also to the drivers. The officer stopped his car, secured the dogs and called a patrol car which took them to a local shelter in Tomaryny.
The officer, who normally works in Gietrzwałd, was driving down a local road number 507, when he spotted two stray dogs wandering next to the lane.
"The place where I found the dogs was hundreds of metres away from the closest buildings, and their behaviour suggested they were disoriented with the situation," said Rafał Prokopczyk from Olsztyn Police.
"Empathy towards animals wouldn't let the officer to look the other way and ignore the dogs in need of help," he added.
Dogs were taken to an animal shelter
The freely-running animals were creating danger not only to themselves, but also to the drivers.
The officer stopped the car, approached the dogs and secured them. He called police officers in Dobre Miasto, who then picked up the dogs and took them to an animal shelter in Tomaryny.
"The dogs are now waiting for someone who will create a real home for them," Prokopczyk said.
