Police officers from Nowy Sącz (Lesser Poland Voivodeship) organised a whip-round to help a Ukrainian couple cover the cost of picking up their 10-year-old son, who was waiting at the border with his grandma. Thanks the officers, the family could reunite at a location 300 kilometres away and return to Nowy Sącz.
The married couple approached police officers who were patrolling the area around the coach station in Nowy Sącz. They said that their son was 300 kilometres away at the Dołhobyczów-Uhryniv border crossing, and that they had no means to go and pick him up.
"Everyone chipped in"
Lesser Poland Police spokesperson Sebastian Gleń said that the married couple had come to Poland before the war in Ukraine broke out, but their son had stayed home. The boy and his grandma managed to escape the war zone, arrived at the border with Poland, and waited there.
"The police officers could not stay indifferent in that situation and organised a whip-round. Everyone chipped in and thanks to that, the officers could cover the cost of fuel, the parents were able to rent a car and travel 300 kilometres to eastern border for their son, and the reunited family could return to Nowy Sącz. Now the happy family is together again thanks to the officers from Nowy Sącz," Sebastian Gleń said.
