On Sunday around 2 p.m., a duty officer at a police station in Grudziądz received a call about a disabled man seeking help at the railway station. A patrol was sent to the scene. It turned out the man had troubles with purchasing a ticket for a train to Sopot, where he lives.
Police: clerk twice refused to sell the ticket
"The clerk couldn't communicate with him as he has hearing difficulties. Furthermore, she refused to sell him a ticket, arguing that that there was no caretaker by his side, and he certainly wouldn't have been able to switch trains in Laskowice Pomorskie, as he would have only five minutes to do it," Łukasz Kowalczyk of Grudziądz Police explained.
It turned out that the situation repeated itself once more. The man had identical problem the day before.
Help from the police
"The officer dispatched to the scene bought the man a ticket to Sopot and helped him to get on the train," Kowalczyk said.
But their help did not end there. "Duty officer in Grudziądz called officers in Świecie, who helped the man in switching trains in Laskowice Pomorskie," the officer added.
Also officers in Sopot were told that the man might be in need of help in getting off the train. A patrol was already waiting when he arrived, and helped him to safely exit at the station.
