Police officers from two voivodeships chased a 28-year-old driver who was going with high-speed wrong way on S8 expressway - Podlasie and Masovian police informed on Thursday.
28-year-old resident of Sejny (Podlaskie Voivodeship) was driving a mitsubishi. "The first reports we received were about a car going wrong way with high-speed on S8 expressway somewhere near Tykocin. According to the reports, the car had full beam lights on which was blinding other drivers. We received quite a lot of these reports," said Chief Commissioner Tomasz Krupa from Podlasie police.
Police units from Białystok were dispatched to chase the driver, but he wouldn't stop. After some time his car left Podlaskie Voivodeship. Then, police officers from Ostrów Mazowiecka and Wyszków stepped into the action.
"At first, officers from Ostrów Mazowiecka tried to stop that man, but he was going straight at them, forcing them to swerve behind the traffic barriers," said the spokeswoman for Masovian police, Deputy Inspector Katarzyna Kucharska.
In Wyszków, the car was also going straight at the officers. Seeing that the driver was causing serious danger, police officers decided to fire a shot at the car. The man still kept on pushing forward. "Only after a few minutes, the officers managed to stop the car," Kucharska said.
The 28-year-old had his driver's license taken away earlier this week. He didn't stop for a road check. The incident took place on October 15 around 5 am in Sejny. As a result, the man was detained and taken into police custody. "Yesterday, around 2 pm, the man was released and it turned out that once again he sat behind the wheel acted very much like before," Chief Commissioner Tomasz Krupa said.
Private radio RMF FM was the first to inform about the car chase.
