The spokesperson for the prosecutor's office revealed a new detail on Wednesday regarding the day when the 5-year-old Dawid went missing. The boy's mother spoke to him over the phone when the boy was in the car with his father.
As Łukasz Łapczyński from the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw informed, the woman gave two statements in which she provided details from the day when Dawid went missing. On that tragic day, the woman spoke to her son over the phone when he was travelling in a car driven by his father.
"According to statement, it was a short conversation between her and the boy that didn't raise her suspicions. Dawid exchanged a few sentences with her," the spokesman said.
Later on the woman exchanged text messages with Paweł Ż. (boy's father). "This exchange was more suspicious. The messages suggested that something bad might happen," he added.
Family conflict
This is a very important lead in the search for Dawid Żukowski. Now, after the first few days of the search ended with no success, the key issue for the investigators is to reconstruct the relations within the boy's family.
As was revealed earlier on, the boy's parents were in conflict over the custody of their child. Friends of the family claim that the gambling addiction of Dawid's father was the root of the conflict. The man is said to have debts resulting from the addiction. There were rows over this issue between family members.
At the end of June, the mother notified the prosecutor's office alleging that Paweł Ż. was abusing her. Three weeks before Dawid's disappearance, the woman is believed to have taken the boy and moved to Warsaw. She was planning to file for divorce, but she didn't manage to do it.
"It's hard to say if this was the crucial element, but it certainly was a situation that could have affected the course of events. They weren't drastic acts of violence. It was mostly about mutual relations between the parents, which led to the woman's moving out," Łapczyński said.
Paweł Ż. was a sales representative. His family were repatriated from Kazakhstan and returned to Poland 20 years ago. He met his wife on a business trip to the East. The woman came to Poland 6 or 7 years ago. Recently, she worked in a Russian culture centre. She was teaching Russian.
Death of the father; boy missing
The boy went missing on Wednesday the 10th of July. About 5 pm, 5-year-old Dawid Żukowski left his grandparents' home in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, together with his father. The man was supposed to take the boy to Warsaw, to his mother. The parents weren't divorced, but they lived separately. The last contact between them was recorded at 6 pm on Wednesday.
Dawid's father died shortly before 9 pm. He was hit by a train. According to the police, he committed suicide. A few hours later, around midnight, the mother reported the boy had gone missing.
The police quickly located the car that the man was driving, it was parked three kilometres from the railway tracks, at the Łąki district in Grodzisk. The investigators examined the CCTV footage which helped them to determine the route of the car.
