As this crisis related with President Duda's standpoint, who defends Mr Wąsik and Mr Kamiński, has already heated up to a very high temperature, I've turned to the president with an offer to meet as soon as possible, face to face - Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in his first interview for Polish media since taking office in December. "It will take place on Monday at 11 a.m." - Tusk added.
In his first interview since becoming prime minister, Donald Tusk spoke, among other things, about the recent legal chaos surrounding the arrest of two former ministers from PiS party - Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik.
Asked if he imagined himself taking part in a symbolic roundtable with President Andrzej Duda, an ally of PiS, Tusk said: "I don't need to imagine it."
"As this crisis related with President Duda's standpoint, who defends Mr Wąsik and Mr Kamiński, has already heated up to a very high temperature, I've turned to the president with an offer to meet as soon as possible, face to face, to establish an absolutely necessary ground for cooperation between the president and the prime minister," he added.
"It will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. I will go to Mr President to discuss the details and nature of my mission," the prime minister said, adding that he would visit Kyiv in the coming days.
"For both of us - the president was also very committed - the situation in Ukraine and on the frontline is absolutely the number one issue due to the security of Poland. There also other issues that must be solved related, for instance, with the interest of Polish hauliers."
Tusk stressed that he would very much like to find common ground with the president when it comes to the war in Ukraine, security, and policy regarding Russia. "So that not only the president and the prime minister, but the Polish state as a whole worked in unity in that regard."
