President Andrzej Duda pardoned two former CBA officers sentenced in the so-called land scandal - TVN24 reported on Thursday evening. The president had already pardoned two other people sentenced in the same case - former interior minister Mariusz Kamiński and his former deputy Maciej Wąsik.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the news on Friday morning. "More CBA agents pardoned by Andrzej Duda. Before we know it, he'll be ready to pardon the whole PiS," Tusk said on the X platform.
Two former agents pardoned
TVN24 reporter Łukasz Frątczak informed about the president's decision to pardon two former CBA agents on Thursday evening.
Grzegorz P., a former CBA director, and his deputy Krzysztof B. had been sentenced to one year in prison for abusing power while holdng a public office, among other things.
Frątczak spoke on Friday in TVN24 about "a certain surprising coincidence". He explained that on Wednesday a Warsaw court issued an arrest warrant after Grzegorz P. and Krzysztof B., and "all of the sudden that very Wednesday Andrzej Duda decided to pardon both men". "Are those two events correlated? I certainly won't be the judge of that," he added.
The TVN24 reporter stressed that the two former agents had not been sent to to prison together with Kamiński and Wąsik due to poor health condition. This week, he added, the court found no reason to delay the execution of the sentence any further.
Asked about Andrzej Duda's motivation, Frątczak said that the president's office had issued a statement, in which it explained the pardon had been granted "due to important state interest and humanitarian reasons".
