Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that this year's local elections will be held on April 7 and 21. "I hope that April will be a good month for the Polish local governance," the PM said at a press conference on Monday (Jan. 15).
"I've made a decision today to issue an ordinance - formally I will send it to the National Electoral Commission (PKW) along with the election calendar - but a decision has been made, the local elections will take place on April 7 and 21," PM Tusk said at a press briefing ahead of the cabinet meeting on Monday.
This way, he added, the election calendar for local governments would commence.
The prime minister stressed he was in an ongoing contact with local governments' representatives.
He added that once the PKW has greenlighted the elections - which he said should be a "pure formality" - it would be possible to "go ahead with these elections - so crucial from the point of view of local communities and the lives of ordinary people".
"I hope that April will be a good month for the Polish local governance," Donald Tusk added.
According to Poland's Electoral Code, the next local elections must be organized between March 31 and April 23, 2024.
