The National Prosecutor's Office submitted a request to Justice Minister Adam Bodnar for consent to have former head of the Ministry of Justice, PiS MP Zbigniew Ziobro, brought to testify before the parliamentary investigative commission for Pegasus spyware.
On Thursday, the National Prosecutor's Office (PK) forwarded to Minister of Justice, Attorney General Adam Bodnar a request from the chairperson of the parliamentary committee investigating the use of Pegasus spyware, asking for consent to arrest and bring the former Minister of Justice, PiS MP Zbigniew Ziobro, to the committee's hearing, as reported by PK spokesperson Przemysław Nowak.
Zbigniew Ziobro, who had been summoned multiple times as a witness by the investigative committee on Pegasus, has not yet attended any of its hearings. The head of the committee, Magdalena Sroka, informed two weeks ago that the committee was submitting a request to the Attorney General for the Sejm’s approval to arrest and bring the former minister to the committee for questioning.
A few days earlier, the committee had made a fourth attempt to summon Ziobro as a witness. The politician did not appear and did not justify his absence. Previously, an expert opinion had been submitted to the committee, stating that Ziobro's condition allows him to testify. The former minister of justice has cancer.
The investigative committee on Pegasus is examining the legality of the software. It aims to check the correctness and purpose of actions taken using the system, including by the government, intelligence services, and the police, up until November 2023. Furthermore, the committee is tasked with determining who was responsible for the purchase of this and similar tools.
