On Wednesday, navy divers specializing in explosive ordnance disposal will neutralize 32 unexploded World War II shells found in the Gulf of Gdańsk. According to the Polish Navy, a strict ban on entering the water will be in effect along the shoreline from Stogi to Sobieszewo. Local residents and visitors in Gdańsk have been alerted by the Government Security Center.

The operation will be conducted by navy divers from the 13th Minesweeper Division based in Gdynia.

The unexploded ordnance consists of 32 artillery shells, each with a 210 mm caliber, discovered during preparations for constructing a floating LNG terminal.

The 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla spokesperson LCDR Grzegorz Lewandowski reported that these shells contain a total of approximately 640 kg of explosives.

"Due to the operation in the waters of the Gulf of Gdańsk, safety zones with specific restrictions and prohibitions will be introduced," Lewandowski emphasized.

Safety zones and restrictions

Entering the water is strictly prohibited along the shoreline section between Stogi and Sobieszewo in Gdańsk.

The Polish Navy urges adherence to all restrictions in effect on the day of the operation and requests that the public follow the instructions of the security services involved in safeguarding the mission.
