Polish Navy carried out drills on the Baltic Sea on Tuesday (April 25). The practice focused on shielding strategic sea transport and maintaining control on the sea in crisis situations. Patrolling trade routes and protecting critical infrastructure is necessary to ensure security in the region. TVN24 reporter Artur Molęda watched the drills.
"There's a huge amount of sea infrastructure on the Baltic that supplies our country with oil and gas to start with, down to such basic things like clothes or electronics. All these shipments arrive in our country, but are also delivered to other countries which don't have access to coastlines and sea, and so in terms of economy it is a very important region," said Sub-lieutenant Damian Przybysz of the 3rd Ship Flotilla.
It takes about 15 minutes to understand just how big the traffic on the Baltic Sea is by Poland's coastline. Therefore, patrolling trade routes and protecting critical infrastructure is necessary to ensure security in the region.
This task has been given to one of the most advanced ships in its class operating on the Baltic Sea - the fast attack craft ORP Orkan. The vessel is fitted with new generation radars, combat management systems, and various weapons, such machine guns and missile launchers. Missile trajectory can be established and programmed with great precision.
"Our biggest strength lies in men, sailors, extremely well trained, but who also need to maintain their skills. That is why we carry out this practice. Our soldiers are extremely determined to safeguard the interest of the Polish state and its borders," said Sub-lieutenant Przybysz stressed.
