Andrzej Bargiel reached the summit of K2 on Sunday and as the first-ever person skied all the way down. This is the fourth eight-thousander conquered this way in the career of the 30-year-old Polish mountaineer.
In 2013, Bargiel skied down from Shishapangma (8013 metres), in 2014 from Manaslu (8156 metres) and in 2015 from Broad Peak (8051 metres).
He reached the summit of the yet unconquered in winter mountain on Sunday 8.25 CEST. He took the drone and commenced his descent on skis.
The route has been planned beforehand and, within reasonable limits, checked for potential difficulties and dangers.
"Skiing down from such a dangerous mountain as K2 sets a challenge to the very top of of world's best extreme skiers. Andrzej has achieved something absolutely great, something beyond imagination," said Leszek Cichy, the chief of Polskie Himalaje 2018 project.
"Andrzej Bargiel's reaching K2 summit and then skiing down is another Polish milestone in the history of international mountaineering," Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter.
Andrzej Bargiel said that he's not quitting his plan to climb up the Mount Everest in Autumn and ski down to base.
