The first group of rescuers searching for two missing cavers have found equipment left behind by the pair - Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue (TOPR) chief, Jan Krzysztof, said on Tuesday.
"The cavers have left behind pieces of their equipment, most likely, because they attempted to enter a cavern, and that would be impossible with the gear. The corridors are so narrow that only a very slim person could fit," TOPR chief Jan Krzysztof told Polish Press Agency (PAP).
The equipment was found by the first team of rescuers who made it down to search area. Among other things found, there were two harnesses, an impaired driller and some food.
According to Krzysztof, most likely, the cavers accidentally blocked the water drain and soon after they got trapped inside.
Exactly at the spot where the equipment was found, the rescuers were widening a narrow corridor with explosives. Thanks to the changed air circulation which made the cave ventilate naturally, the explosives could be used more frequently.
Unfortunately, the rescuers weren't able to establish contact with the missing cavers.
Tuesday was the fourth day of the search. The cavers went missing on Saturday (August 17).
