Poland's State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin on Tuesday (July 11) was asked by the TVN24 reporter Radomir Wit about the ancient sword he had bestowed upon Father Tadeusz Rydzyk on Sunday. The minister explained the sword would be included in the collection of a museum Rydzyk is planning to open this year. The reporter remarked the museum would be opened only after the parliamentary election, to which Sasin replied: "But would like to open a museum with empty walls?".
Father Tadeusz Rydzyk is a Roman Catholic priest and Redemptorist, founder and director of the conservative Radio Maryja station, and founder of the University of Social and Media Culture in Toruń.
On Sunday (July 9), the priest received a gift in the form of an ancient sword "from the times of Mieszko I" from State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin and Enea Group Chairman Paweł Majewski. As Wirtualna Polska has learned, the sword was purchased for approximately 250,000 zlotys.
According to Sasin, the sword would be added to the collection of the John Paul II Museum of Remembrance and Identity in Toruń. Father Tadeusz Rydzyk and Lux Veritatis Foundation are the founders of the museum.
Minister Sasin explains
On Tuesday, Sasin was asked by TVN24's Radomir Wit why he had presented the sword to Father Rydzyk. "Not to Father Rydzyk, but to the Remembrance and Identity Museum - but onto the hands of Father Rydzyk.
"The museum is not yet open, but it will be open in October and that's when the sword will be put on display there," he said.
To a remark that the museum would be open only after the parliamentary election, Sasin replied: "But would you like to open a museum with empty walls?".
Radomir Wit tried multiple times to ask minister Sasin to clarify why he had given the sword to Father Rydzyk during a ceremony at Jasna Góra Monastery, assisted by other members of the ruling Law and Justice party, and not at the museum once it has been opened. The minister would not answer this question.
