Passersby catch man who had to jump out of burning house

Tvn24.pl informed about the tenement building fire at Łagiewnicka street immediately after it broke out. One of the flats on the first floor - most likely by accident - burst in flames. A 60-year-old man, whose escape route was cut off by fire, was still inside. Fire service wall called to the scene, but action was needed immediately. Luckily, a dozen brave passersby were at the scene and decided to do all it took to save the man. Among them was Emil Kinal, a volunteer firefighter.

"One woman proposed we try to catch this man. And so we did," the man told TVN24.

The group quickly prepared to catch the 60-year-old. They tried to convince the man he had get out of the burning flat as soon as possible. Finally, he jumped out of the window. "We managed to catch well enough for him not to get killed. He only bruised himself a little, he was taken to a hospital," Emil Kinal said.

According to TVN24 reporter Piotr Borowski, the 60-year-old's life is not in danger.

"Firefighters arrived at the scene after the man had already jumped out. During extinguishing operation, three more people were evacuated," the reporter said.

Łukasz Górczyński from Łódź Fire Service said that - by default - firefighters advise against any attempts to catch people jumping down from high up. " It poses huge danger to the health and life of people who might attempt to take part in a rescue mission of this kind," the fireman said. He added, however, that sometimes there is no other option.

"We were notified quite late about the fire. If it wasn't for the heroic attitude of the witnesses, the 60-year-old resident would most likely be in a much worse condition. If it wasn't for brave strangers, who risked their own lives, it could have ended in tragedy," Górczyński said.
