Kamil Durczok died on Tuesday morning, the University Clinical Center in Katowice informed. The journalist, who had been admitted to the hospital on Monday, passed away at the age of 53.
Kamil Durczok was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon. He died on Tuesday morning. "Press" magazine informed about his passing, which was later confirmed by the University Clinical Center in Katowice.
The hospital also informed that the journalist died due to cessation of blood circulation resulting from a deterioration of a chronic disease he suffered from.
Kamil Durczok was one of the most recognised Polish journalists. He began his career in Egida Student Radio, and then in Radio Katowice. Later, he worked in Telewizja Polska, where he was an anchor of prime-time newscast "Wiadomości" and other shows.
In 2006, he moved to TVN and became editor-in-chief of "Fakty" and one of the hosts of the show.
He left in 2015 after a special committee confirmed "cases of misconduct including mobbing and sexual harassment". Durczok consistently denied the allegations.
Later on, he founded a local portal silesion.pl and hosted his show in Polsat News. Recently, he worked in an internet project called Durczokracja.
Durczok also hosted political talks in private radio RMF FM, and ran a column in "Wprost" weekly.
He received many awards for his work, including Journalist of the Year Grand Press Award, Wiktor Award , and Golden Telekamera.
In 2020, Durczok revealed he was suffering from alcoholism and depression. In 2021, he was sentenced for causing a road accident while driving under influence of alcohol.
