The Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk commented on the first question of the national referendum planned by the ruling PiS party. Tusk used a photograph of a laughing CEO of Poland's oil giant Orlen - Daniel Obajtek.
The ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) posted a video on social media regarding the referendum planned by the government to take place on the parliamentary election day on October 15. In the video, PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński reveals that the first out of four questions will look as follows: "Do you support the sale of state-owned enterprises?".
The leader of Civic Platform Donald Tusk used the X social media platform to comment on the first referendum question unveiled the ruling party.
In his post, Tusk published a photograph of the Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek laughing a hearty laugh, adding this comment: "Chairman Obajtek has just read the first question of the referendum".
Orlen-Lotos merger
After Kaczyński's announcement, opposition politicians have kept reminding that Orlen sold part of the Polish refinery Lotos to private companies, including foreign ones. The move resulted in the green light for the huge merger between Orlen and Lotos.
A part of Gdańsk Refinery was purchased by Saudi Aramco, whereas the part including asphalt production and nine fuel terminals was bought by the private company Unimot. The part related to biofuels was purchased by Rossi Biofuel, an international company.
Orlen also sold 417 Lotos gas stations to the Hungarian MOL Group, at the same time purchasing MOL gas stations in Hungary and Slovakia.
