Divers from the Masurian Volunteer Search and Rescue have located a sailing boat at the bottom Śniardwy Lake. Now, the owner of the vessel, which sank last year, will have to decide whether to have it refloated or not. The estimated cost is approx. 5,000 zlotys. The divers have published a video of the sunken boat. Some internet users called the footage "a coverage from a galaxy far away".
The sailing boat is somewhat silted, yet in good condition - there are no visible holes or other damage. It lies at the depth of 10 metres.
The vessel was located by Masurian Volunteer Search and Rescue (MOPR) divers.
Boat sank during storm
"The yacht sank during storm. All people who had been onboard were fished out of the water by other sailors, but couldn't tell exactly where the boat sank. Our divers have just found it a bit by accident. It's located in a place where it doesn't pose any danger to other vessels sailing on Śniardwy," MOPR duty officer Tomasz Kurowicki said.
Refloating the sunken boat would cost approx. 5,000 zlotys. The decision is up to the owner, who can either ask MOPR to bring the vessel up, hire another company, or let the boat stay at the bottom of the lake.
The divers have posted a video on social media showing the sunken vessel. One internet user said in the comments section that the footage was like "a coverage from a galaxy far away". Another one said briefly: "Awesome!!!".
Diving fans should know that there are a few deliberately sank wrecks and boats in the Masuria Lakes District, only for divers to explore.
One of them is Arabella. Sitting at the bottom of Mamry Lake, it is considered a monument to the legendary diver from Giżycko - Andrzej "Balon" Tarasiewicz. The boat is located 33 metres below the surface and can be accessed only by specialised divers.
