Łódź City Social Services has launched a special bus that will offer hot meals and tea to people in homelessness crisis and other in need during winter. The line has been bringing help to people since 2002.
This will be its first trip this fall-winter season. From Wednesday, December 1, a specially marked bus will operate in the streets of Łódź helping people in need. The special line, which has been serving hot meals and tea since 2002, will available at nights until March 15.
"During winter, people in homelessness crisis in Łódź, as well as anyone in need of support, will be able to get a hot meal at the bus everyday," said City Social Services Centre (MOPS) deputy chief, Piotr Kowalski. He added that the bus is just a part of a whole-year system of support for people struggling with homelessness.
"This system includes, among other things, shelters and dosshouses financed and co-financed by the city of Łódź. The fall and winter time are the worst periods of the year for homeless people, and that's why additional support is so important," Kowalski stressed.
This year, the bus route will start at the Shelter for Homeless Men at Nowe Sady Street, and continue at Łódź Kaliska railway Station (near Unii Lubelskiej Avenue), Barlickiego Square (near Żeromskiego Street), Old Town Square (near Zgierska Street), towards the market square at the corner of Przybyszewskiego and Tatrzańska streets. The bus will run all night.
"Each person in need who comes to the bus will offered hot soup with bread, and warm tea," said MOPS deputy chief.
