Polish cellist Anna Wójtowicz-Pawluśkiewicz died on Wednesday in Kraków at the age of 73. She was the "Lovely cellist" from the famous song by Polish folk band Skaldowie. She also played the cello in the original lineup of Marek Grechuta's Anawa band.
Journalist Wacław Krupiński confirmed the death of the artist to Polish Press Agency.
Anna Wójtowicz joined Anawa as a very young girl. When she was in high school, Marek Grechuta was searching for instrumentalists for his band. He met Zbigniew Wodecki who wanted to join as a violinist. The latter recommended his friend - cello player Anna. Rehearsals and concerts were held in a student club "Bambuko" as, at the time, Anawa was still a comedy club of Kraków University of Technology students.
Anna Wójtowicz was in all major albums recorded by the band. She was also a member in the early 1970s, when Andrzej Zaucha joined as the lead singer. A booklet from the album recorded with Andrzej Zaucha (titled "Anawa") contained a short annotation by Anna Wójtowicz-Pawluśkiewicz. She wrote that Zaucha had been the initiator of the first "Star Wars" fan club in Poland, founded for her daughter Joanna during holidays in Międzyzdroje. The artist performed at the Theater Scena STU in Kraków, where she played the cello in "Patients" based on Michail Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita", music to which was composed by Janusz Stokłosa.
She was married to Michał Pawluśkiewicz, brother of composer and musician Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. After having two babies, she devoted her life to her family. Her daughter Joanna is an acclaimed scriptwriter.
