Ukrainian diplomats were leaving embassy in Moscow on Wednesday (March 2), as the facility has been shut down. Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski visited his Ukrainian colleagues to show solidarity and support.
Polish Embassy in Moscow has provided logistical support to Ukrainian diplomats, offering vehicles and equipment to help them move out of Russia. Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski visited the Ukrainian embassy on Wednesday morning.
"I've just said goodbye to Ukrainian diplomats who are leaving Russia. Today is their last day in Moscow. Together with my colleagues, we've come here to show solidarity and support. We stand with them. At the moment, it's crucial to stay united," Krajewski said.
"Very emotional and touching meeting"
Yevhen Kulesha, temporarily acting as head of the Ukrainian embassy has received a gift from Krajewski - a memorative icon of Nicholas the Wonderworker.
"To say goodbye, I have symbolically bestowed an icon upon the diplomats. Nicholas the Wonderworker is the patron of travellers, conciliation between the East and West, and of people in dire circumstances. I hope that this icon will help Ukrainian diplomats to quickly return to Moscow," Polish ambassador told TVN24 correspondent.
He added that the meeting in the closing embassy was "very emotional and touching". "The Ukrainian representative thanked Poland and Poles for showing a lot of heart and support in these difficult times for Ukraine," Krajewski said.
