As the harvests came to an end this year, Brześć History Seekers (Brzescy Poszukiwacze Historii - an exploration group from Brześć Kujawski) showed up at a plot of land near the village of Kruszyn, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. On the site they found interesting items, including one dating back a few thousand years. It was discovered by a 7-year-old daughter of one of the explorers.
Each year the end of summer harvests marks the beginning of the new season for treasure hunters and history explorers. On Saturday (August 6), an exploration group from Brześć Kujawski - Brześć History Seekers - carried out a search at a plot of land located near the village of Kruszyn in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
One of the group members brought his children along to show them his passion. The kids were told to look for pieces of ceramic. Everyone was stunned by a 7-year-old daughter of the explorer, as the girl had found a relic dating back thousands of years.
"At one point she came over and said she had found something cool. As it turned out, the girl found an element of a flint tool dating back thousands of years BC," said Dawid Kubiak, chairman of the group.
According to an expert from the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography in Łódź, the find comes from the Neolithic period.
"It's made of chocolate flint from Świętokrzyskie Mountains and most likely was an element of a retouched flake, backed blade or a scraper. Those items were used, among others, in wood and bone processing, or simply for cutting," Kubiak explained.
That same day the explorers also found a fibula, that is an ornamental brooch or pin used for fastening garments. Fibulae were used in Europe since the Late Bronze Age (around 1500 BC), up until the Middle Ages. The item discovered in Włocławek County dates back to the period between 160-260 AD.
"The find is yet another artifact which confirms the Przeworsk culture peoples had their settlements near the village of Kruszyn," Kubiak added.
All relics found near Kruszyn will be placed in one of Włocławek's museums. A historic preservation officer is also to determine the period of origin of another item found by Brześć History Seekers on that same field. Most likely it's a battle axe, but that has not been confirmed yet.
