Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Monday (May 20) that, in a few days, together with other European prime ministers, he would present an "iron dome" initiative for Poland and Europe. Speaking at a press conference alongside Tusk, European Central Bank (EIB) President Nadia Calviño announced the EIB has pledged to invest 300 million euros in Poland's satellite program.
At a press conference held jointly with European Investment Bank (EIB) Nadia Calviño, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that EIB funds are "one of the pillars of a huge civilizational success" Poland has achieved.
"In Poland, we are aware how much we owe this cooperation, how many places in our homeland reflect these positive changes..." - he added.
"I'd like to thank for a crucial thing from the Polish point of view, namely the readiness of the EBI to support our plans related to security, protection and defence of Polish and European borders."
Tusk stressed that Poland's and Europe's security and stability depend on loans and grants from the EIB. "We shall make use of these European possibilities because - and here I'm grateful for understanding this argumentation - the security of Europe depends largely on the security of Poland," he underscored.
The prime minister added that thanks to the EIB Poland "can count on very cheap, very beneficial loans for security causes that will facilitate our defence and safety". "These no small sums, thanks to which our plan to build an iron dome over Poland and over Europe has made yet another step forward."
Tusk announced he would present "an iron dome" initiative in a few days, together with other European prime ministers.
"So that the idea of a pan-European air defence, the iron dome over Europe, becomes less of a dream but an ever more real and practical plan," Tusk said.
Calviño: Poland is a great example of success
The European Investment Bank has decided to invest 300 million euros in Poland's satellite program, the EIB chief said. The plegde is a part of EIB's new action plan for security and defence.
Calviño said the EIB has already invested nearly 100 billion euros in Poland, financing construction of roads and railways, energy transformation, offshore wind energy or the Warsaw Metro.
"Poland is a great example of success, of taking advantage of the benefits of EU membership. We will always be a trusted partner of Poland to ensure prosperity and development," she added.
