The website of the upper house of the Polish parliament, the Senate, was down on Thursday due to an attack by hackers, the speaker of the chamber Tomasz Grodzki said.
During Thursday's session of the upper house of parliament, speaker Tomasz Grodzki told the chamber that the Senate servers had been attacked by hackers.
"I do not know whether this is the result of yesterday's resolution or just a coincidence, but a strong hacking attack on our servers has been going on for about 40 minutes," he said.
Senate Information Centre said the attack had been carried from multiple locations, including the territory of the Russian Federation. Around 3 p.m. the centre said: "Security measures have been launched. At the moment, the internet website is functioning normally".
An independent senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski told tvn24.pl the attack had lasted for about an hour. "Today, a hacker attack on Senate IT systems is underway. We salute the trolls from the East and promise we shall not stop our support for the fighting Ukraine," Kwiatkowski added.
Civic Coalition senator Marcin Bosacki also commented on the issue. "We have a confirmation that at least part of the morning attack on Senate servers was carried out from the Russian territory," he said on Twitter.
Kamiński: the attack was repelled
Earlier on Thursday, around 1:30 p.m., deputy speaker Michał Kamiński said the attack had been repelled. "Apparently, Russian hackers hoped that Polish Senate would not be functioning properly, and I believe that's why they had attacked us. The good news is the attack has been repelled."
"I'm certain that - just like we have repelled this poor attack on our servers - the Ukrainians will fight off and win this great war against the Russian aggressors," he added.
Senate resolution: bandits in Russian uniforms torture and murder
The Senate on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning the Russian authorities as a terrorist regime.
In the document, the upper house reminded that "on February 24, 2022, the armed forces of the Russian Federation started a barbaric war against Ukraine". "Its aim is to wipe out a sovereign country from the map and destroy the Ukrainian nation," the Senate said.
"The heroic struggle for independence of the Ukrainian people has commanded admiration of the whole free world," we read in the resolution.
Today, Ukraine is the crucial place, fighting for democracy and freedom. Russian invaders are terrorising residents of Ukrainian cities, bombarding civilians targets: kindergartens, schools, theatres, and residential neighbourhoods. Bandits in Russian uniforms torture and murder prisoners of war and civilians in the occupied territories. They kidnap Ukrainian children to raise them to become regime Jannisaries. They deport, transport and send the Ukrainian people to the far outskirts of Russia," the resolution said.
