Born in 1951 in Lidzbark Warmiński, Zbigniew Mikołejko authored nearly a thousand publications. His works were translated into nine languages. He specialized in history of religion and history of ideas.

Professor Mikołejko was head of the Department of Religious Studies at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was a lecturer at a number of Polish universities.

In 2014, he was awarded a silver Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture.
