I hope that no-visa travel between Poland and the United States will soon become reality - President Andrzej Duda told journalists on Friday.
The White House announced on Friday that Poland has been nominated for the Visa Waiver Program. U.S. President Donald Trump told journalists: "we will be giving a full visa waiver to Poland".
"I hope that no-visa travel between Poland and the United States will soon become reality. The procedure of accepting Poland to Visa Waiver Program has started - that means the Polish side has met all formal requirements, it was approved by the American administration and now standard procedures are in motion," Andrzej Duda said at a briefing on Friday.
"I'm extremely happy and grateful to President Donald Trump, because we've been promised this (visa waiver) for many years. Many presidents spoke about it, and indeed, when I had a long discussion on this issue with President Trump, he said: "we must get this done, this this must be done and Poles must have the visas lifted", and that's what's happening right now, which makes me very happy," the president added.
He also explained that the shortest period until Poland joins the program can last five weeks. "I would really like to ask to treat this as the shortest option, as some countries had to wait even for a few months," he appealed.
"I can't tell how long it will really take, but do secretly hope that it maybe it could be done by the end of the year," Andrzej Duda said.
