They try to take away our right to a fair justice system, to its overhaul, let's not allow others to decide for us. We must preserve the Supreme Court's Disciplinary Chamber in our country - President Andrzej Duda said on Friday in Zwoleń, commenting on the situation in the Polish judiciary.
During the meeting with residents of Zwoleń, President Duda spoke about the situation in the Polish justice system. "We all know very well that there have been problems with justice system for many years now, that people have poor opinion about it, that functioning of the Polish courts is seen as poor," Andrzej Duda said. He stressed that current government tried to implement systemic changes that would improve the perception of Polish judiciary.
According to the president, the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court must be preserved. He underlined that this body exists in order to eliminate "black sheep" from judicial circles. "That's what the Disciplinary Chamber is for, for judges to show they are ready to remove those who don't know decency and fail to meet standards to fulfil this grand public service," the president underscored.
"We must preserve the Disciplinary Chamber so that judges' disciplinary liability finally becomes real, to clean the status of judges so that it's respected by the society, and as a result, the state is considered just," Andrzej Duda said.
"They try to take away our right to a fair, good justice system, to its overhaul, they try to do take it from us in every way there is. Let's not allow others to decide for us. We, the Poles, have the right to decide on our own affairs by ourselves. That's why had fought for democracy," said the president.
"I'm the President of Poland. I'm not going to have anyone lecturing us in foreign languages on what system we should have in Poland, and how Poland should handle its own affairs," President Duda added.
