Ryszard Terlecki said on Tuesday he would not apologise to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for his tweet criticising the Belarusian oppositionist. The Deputy Speaker of the Sejm informed, however, he wrote a letter addressed to Tsikhanouskaya "explaining who she is dealing with" taking part in the Campus Polska project.
Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Ryszard Terlecki (Law and Justice) on Friday criticised Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for accepting an invitation to participate in Campus Polska initiative launched by the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski.
He wrote in a tweet: "If Tsikhanouskaya wants to promote anti-democratic opposition in Poland and take part in Trzaskowski's meeting, then she should ask for help in Russia, and we shall support the part of Belarusian opposition which doesn't walk hand in hand with our foes".
Asked by reporters on Tuesday if he was going to apologise for his comment, he replied he would not. "I'm certainly not going to apologise. I don't see a reason to unveil the issue that's barely even started. I've even written a letter to Ms Tsikhanouskaya, explaining who she is dealing with, consorting with the Campus" - Terlecki said, adding that the letter would be made public.
Reporters pointed out that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya was dealing with Polish politicians, to which Terlecki replied: "But this is a specific kind of politicians, and it would be good for her to realise that".
In response to Terlecki's controversial comment made on Friday, Civic Coalition, Poland 2050, as well as the Left demanded that the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm be dismissed from the post. They filed to separate motions in that regard.
