President Duda's aide on "the most realistic date" for Donald Tusk to form new govt

Presidential aide Andrzej Dera was asked in TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach" if President Andrzej Duda has had any information on Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's progress in his efforts to form a new government.

"Mr Mateusz Morawiecki has taken up this mission and he's pursuing it on his own, without consulting the president. The president has ordered, as the constitution dictates, this mission to be pursued and the rest is in the hands of the person who has been tasked," Dera replied. "This is an individual mission carried out by prime minister Morawiecki and the president is awaiting completion of this mission."

Dera was also asked about potential dates on which Donald Tusk's government could be appointed in case Mateusz Morawiecki's cabinet failed to win a confidence vote.

As things stand, Morawiecki has until Nov. 27 to present the program and members of his new government to the Sejm and ask for a vote of confidence.

Should he fail to win a confidence vote, the Sejm will have 14 days to choose a new government. In this case, the deadline would be Dec. 11.

The show host, Grzegorz Kajdanowicz, noted that a European Council summit has been scheduled for Dec. 14-15.

Asked if therefore Donald Tusk's government could be appointed on Dec. 12-13, Dera replied: "I think it's a realistic possibility".

"I think the most realistic date, probably the first available one, will be December 13th. Because on the 12th, the president returns from Geneva. The 13th and 14th are possible, so there are no obstacles for this to happen," he added.

"So on the 13th or 14th in the morning we will have Tusk's new government?" - Kajdanowicz asked. "It appears so in the calendar. And the possible new prime minister also has to be ready to step up. It has to be arranged," Dera said.
