New Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was greeted with hugs by fellow leaders as he made a return to Brussels on Wednesday (December 13) for an EU Council summit -- gatherings he used to chair as its president.
Presidents of the European Commission, European Council, and European Parliament - Ursula von der Leyen, Charles Michel, and Roberta Metsola respectively - were among the EU leaders who warmly greeted Donald Tusk on Wednesday when he arrived in Brussels as Poland's new prime minister.
Apart from that, the new Polish PM accepted congratulations from his Spanish and Dutch counterparts - Pedro Sanchez and Mark Rutte respectively.
Tusk's first summit was a gathering with leaders from the Western Balkan countries.
Tusk was sworn in as prime minister earlier on Wednesday nearly two months after an election in which the governing nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party came first but failed to secure a majority.
But on Thursday (December 14) leaders were set to discuss granting the opening of accession talks to Ukraine -- a debate which promises to be long as Hungary is refusing to agree.
