Inflation in September 2023 was at 8.2% compared to the corresponding month last year, according to Poland's Central Statistical Office (Statistics Poland). Compared to August 2023, consumer prices in Poland decreased by 0.4%. In August 2023, inflation in year-on-year terms stood at 10.1%.
"Consumer prices in September 2023, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 8.2% (with an increase of prices of services – by 9.7% and goods – by 7.6%)," Statistics Poland said in a statement released on Friday (Oct. 13).
"As related to the previous month consumer prices decreased by 0,4% (with a decrease of prices of goods – by 0,5% and services – by 0,2%)," the stats office added.
Compared to August 2023, Statistics Poland said, "the highest contribution to the total consumer price index came from lower prices related to transport (by 2.9%), health (by 2.6%), food (by 0.4%) and recreation and culture (by 1.5%), which decreased the index by 0.26 pp, 0.15 pp, 0.11 pp and 0.09 pp, respectively".
"Higher prices related to clothing and footwear (by 2.5%), education (by 4.9%) and restaurants and hotels (by 0.7%) increased the index by 0.10 pp, 0.06 pp and 00.4 pp, respectively," we read.
Compared to September 2022, " higher prices related to food (by 10.1%) and dwelling (by 9.2%), increased the index by 2.49 pp and 2.32 pp, respectively".
"Lower prices related to Transport (by 2,8%), decreased the index by 0,27 pp."
