Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said at a press conference on Thursday that in current epidemiological situation, "a natural thing to do is to mark the whole country as a red zone". The minister said the latest statistics suggest that 317 out of 380 counties in Poland have already become "red zones".
"We're observing a constant increase in the number of red zones. According to yesterday's data, there were 317 'red' counties. Let me remind that there are 380 counties in total" ' minister Niedzielski said at a press conference.
As a result, said the minister, "a natural thing to do is to mark the whole country as a red zone".
Since the last Saturday (October 17), 152 counties, including cities with county rights, have been marked as red zones. The rest of the country has been marked as yellow.
In the red zones, restrictions include limiting the number of customers in shops to 5 persons per cash register, ban on organising weddings and wakes, and remote learning for universities and high schools.
Niedzielski also informed about a deal struck between the government and private hospitals. "As a result of our talks, there total number of beds devoted to COVID patients will increase by 1,000" - he said.
He stressed that these beds were "very important", and that the said hospitals "are located in big cities, where those beds are needed the most". "I'm happy to see that the 'all hands on deck' motto is actually happening" - said the health minister.
