Polish Embassy in Moscow has confirmed that its bank account has been blocked by Russian authorities. Russia's Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreyev informed about this decision on Tuesday in Rossija 24 channel.
"The embassy can confirm the information about the blocking of its account. At the same, for the good of the institution and the rules of its functioning, we shall not reveal any detailed information," Polish Embassy in Moscow told TVN24 Biznes.
Russia's Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreyev informed about this decision on Tuesday in Rossija 24 channel.
Last week, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was asked about Russian embassy's bank accounts being blocked by Poland due to prevent them from being used to support terrorist activity.
Morawiecki said at the time that this was a question for Poland's special services. "I can only say that, indeed, we have been dealing with blocking assets of the Russian Federation," he said.
Poland expelled Russian diplomats
Last week Poland expelled 45 Russian diplomats. "Poland, in cooperation with its allies, has decided to significantly reduce the number of diplomatic staff of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Warsaw. In total, 45 people holding various diplomatic status will leave our territory," Poland's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Łukasz Jasina said on March 23.
In response, Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreyev said that Russia had the right to decide on how to retaliate.
A tvn24.pl reporter, Robert Zieliński, revealed in mid-March that after the Russian attack on Ukraine, Russian diplomats had tried to withdraw 2 million euro in cash. These attempts were blocked by banks in coordination with the General Inspector of Financial Information - an institution responsible for fighting against money laundering and financing of terrorism.
The Russian embassy refused to comment on the issue.
