Poland's deputy ombudsperson dr Hanna Machińska spoke in TVN24 on Friday about the urgent need of proper coordination of the support offered to refugees from Ukraine. "We call upon the public administration for better coordination of efforts," she stressed. "We can see that this cooperation is breaking up in a number of key places. It's not enough to just give public statements and say that everything works fine," Machińska added.
Since Russia launched the attack on Ukraine on Feb.24, more than 1.5 million people have fled to Poland, Polish Border Guard informed.
Poland's Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights, dr Hanna Machińska, told TVN24 on Friday there was an urgent need of proper coordination of help provided to refugees from Ukraine.
She said that "we've reached a point in which spontaneity is not enough". "We call upon the public administration for better coordination of efforts," she stressed, adding that "we need to have clarity as to how this coorperation could be organised".
"We can see that this cooperation is breaking up in a number of key places. It's not enough to just give public statements and say that everything works fine. We must sit down together and share these responsibilities, but most of the tasks belong to the public administration," said the deputy ombudswoman.
Machińska also said that local governments had a fundamental role to play in that regard. "We see that in smaller cities this cooperation is going quite well," she said.
"But is it a system, though? No. Such system should be created and this is absolutely what we need now," she added.
