The Ministry of Health informed on Wednesday about 15,571 new cases of coronavirus infection and 794 COVID-related deaths, the highest number of daily fatalities in the fourth wave of the pandemic.
Poland reported 794 COVID-related deaths on Wednesday, the highest number in the fourth wave of the pandemic, Health Ministry said, adding that in 567 cases patients suffered from pre-existing diseases.
The ministry also informed about 15,571 infection cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Furthermore, 73.5% of Wednesday's COVID deaths were unvaccinated people, and nearly 2% were vaccinated with one of two dose only.
77% of fully vaccinated people whose death was reported on Wednesday suffered from pre-existing diseases, whereas 82% of all deaths were people aged 65 and older.
Poland has been experiencing a persistently high rate of daily infections, though the Omicron variant has yet to gain a foothold there. As of Tuesday, the country only had 25 confirmed Omicron cases.
Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported a total of 4,080,282 infections and 95,707 deaths.
