Święty-Ersetic's gold is only the second medal in this competition for Polish women in the history of European Championships. In 1978, the legendary Irena Szewińska won bronze.
Another Polish runner Iga Baumgart-Witan (BKS Bydgoszcz) was fifth.

Kszczot has defended the European champion title for the second time in a row. He won gold medals in Zurich and Amsterdam, in 2014 and 2016 respectively.
