Poland's President Andrzej Duda has signed the decision to hold the parliamentary elections on the 13th of October, 2019 - the president's spokesman Błażej Spychalski informed on Tuesday evening.
The election campaign will officially start no later than 5 days after the publication of the president's decision in the Journal of Laws.
According to the Polish Constitution, the President is bound to declare the date of the parliamentary elections no later than 90 days before the end of the 4-year term of the Sejm and the Senate. The date of the election must be scheduled on a non-working day, at least 30 days before the end of the 4-year term of both houses of parliament. The first sessions of the current Sejm and Senate were held on the 12th of November, 2015.
In order to win an MP ticket, a candidate must hold Polish citizenship and be at least 21 years old, whereas candidates for senators must be at least 30 years old. Candidates for both houses can be put forward by political parties and voters. It's not allowed to run for both the Sejm and the Senate at the same time. Only adult (18+) citizens of Poland are eligible to take part in the election.
