Poland's Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak said during his visit to Seoul that he would do "whatever it takes to bring as much military equipment from South Korea as possible". "It's crucial the Polish Army is equipped with modern and reliable weapons. And such equipment is produced by South Korea," he said. Błaszczak added that South Korea's main challenge was North Korea, which pursues aggressive politics, whereas Poland's major challenge was the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Poland's Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has been paying a visit to South Korea since Sunday. On Monday, he had two conversations: with his Korean counterpart Lee Jong-Sup and representatives of the Korean military industry. "We've discussed options of expediting deliveries of these weapons for the Polish Army," Błaszczak told reporters.
He added that this was crucial in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the Russian aggression against this country. "It's crucial the Polish Army is equipped with modern and reliable weapons. And such equipment is produced by South Korea," said the chief of Polish MOD.
Błaszczak: Korea has the best equipment
Minister Błaszczak also said that South Korea's biggest challenge was posed by its neighbour - North Korea, which pursued aggressive politics, and listed the Russian aggression against Ukraine as Poland's immediate challenge.
"My task as MOD chief is to ensure that the Polish Army has the best and reliable equipment. Military gear produced in Korea is exactly such equipment, and therefore I will do my best to bring as much of it as possible and as soon as possible," Błaszczak said.
He added that the chairperson of Poland's BGK bank (Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego) Beata Daszyńska-Muzyczka was among the delegation members, and took part in discussions regarding financing of the potential purchases. He explained that the Homeland Defence Act would serve as a basis for increased army spending. "But also BGK, based on the contract with the MOD, runs the Armed Forces Support Fund, and thus is responsible for financing deliveries for the Polish Army," the minister said.
Błaszczak said that it was his duty as defence minister "to equip the Polish Army as soon as possible with these very weapons - infantry fighting vehicles and Krab gun-howitzers".
